Take Two is an immersive deep-listening night consisting of two elements: an uninterrupted, high-quality playback of a seminal album, followed by a modern-day reinterpretation by world-class musicians.

This edition features Jeffery Miller, a New Orleans-bred trombonist, who follows in the footsteps of Crescent City greats such as the Marsalis family, Jon Batiste, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and others. Miller will present a performance inspired by New Orleans patriarch, the late Ellis Marsalis and his 1994 album “Whistle Stop.”

“Whistle Stop” is a collection of compositions by some of the Modern Jazz Masters of New Orleans in the 1960s such as drummer James Black, tenor saxophonist Nat Perrilliat, and clarinetist Alvin Batiste. Marsalis pays homage to his contemporaries while simultaneously pushing a hard-swinging, heavy bop sound throughout.

Describing the album as “the symbolic soundtrack of my life,” Jeffery Miller will continue to move the music forward with his quartet. Having collaborated with the likes of John Legend, Mac Miller, Anderson Paak, and Esperanza Spalding, we can expect a performance that will traverse traditional jazz, bebop, and modern R&B with a freedom that’s beautifully and uniquely New Orleans.
