Why/how did you get into cocktails / beverages?
I was drinking a lot of them before I really became involved in what makes a great drink! When I began working with different people’s creative beverage programs, specifically Greg Seider and Tim Harris – that was when I realized what really makes a great cocktail. Namely, fresh ingredients and quality liquor.
What’s your ultimate cocktail?
A classic Gin Gimlet!
What’s the most misunderstood/underrated cocktail?
A cosmopolitan!
Is there a secret cocktail ingredient you favor or use when trying to make a twist?
Usually an amaro or aperitif to highlight different elements of the base spirit.
Is there a cocktail trend you wish would die?
The “craft cocktail” movement, which I do think is now dead. For a long while, it seemed that every bartender in Brooklyn was also a carpenter, or at least dressed like one. Ick!!
What’s your favorite cocktail currently on the menu?
The Red Right Hand is a homage to a bar I used to work at on the UWS. It is a fantastic drink and reminds me of a very happy time in my life!
If you were a cocktail, how would you describe yourself?
Hmmm. Strong but fruity!
