Issue number one available for free at Academy Records former location on Oak Street in Brooklyn. The cover image has few layers to it: ‘A Letter From A DJ’ was penned by Roy Thode, resident DJ of the Saint expressing his feelings on the power of music and how they strive to bring their customers happiness. The photo was shot by Neil Aline, and the model we learned later was Tadeu Magalhães of Occupy The Disco who later became a dear friend.

A fresh-faced Paul and Barbie at the newly opened The Lot Radio kiosk, before the stickers and all of Paul’s gray hair. We didn’t know then that we’d still hold on to this slot 8 years later, but glad we have. The cadence has made us thoughtful about how we come across, absorb, and move through music as it pertains to the radio format. It expanded our musical horizons and allowed us to share our curiosities outside of the club.

2017
‘Love Injection’: A Modern Dance Music Fanzine, our first exhibition curated by Matthew Higgs at White Columns on view March 18 through April 22, 2017 which also featured Paradise Garage and Vinyl Mania from the collection of the late Judy Russell (co-founder of Nu Groove Records) courtesy of DJ Scribe.

2018
We released ‘Love Injection Fanzine: Issues 1-24 2-Year Anniversary Box Set’ which included re-prints of issues 1-24 sealed in a foil-stamped poly bag inside a silk-screened box. We sold out, and somehow still lost money, lol.

2019
As part of Come Together: Music Festival and Label Market at MoMA PS1 in partnership with #OtherMusic, Love Injection and Holy Ghost! presented a collection of rare print materials from the foundational New York City record label West End Records inside Artbook. In addition we curated a conversation moderated by Mark Riley (WLIB, For The Record) between Taana Gardner and Kenton Nix, creators of the heavily sampled, influential West End Records hit “Heartbeat” and many more in the Dome on Sunday March 24, 2019. Special thanks to L’Rain.

2020
Scenes from what we would later know was the 8th and final of our fundraising parties at the now defunct Magick City just a month before the pandemic hit. These parties hold a special place in our hearts, as they expanded and strengthened our bonds with our community of readers turned friends, and started to inform the style of DJing we would continue to pursue. Special thanks to Bodega Bruja Mikey Mandeville, Rich Awn and all the setup crews.

2021
The inaugural year of our Universal Lessons weekender at Glen Falls House hosted by Good Room with our friends Coloring Lessons Musclecars. We brought our own sound system up to the tavern the first two years before they installed a permanent one with the help of The Mixtape Club, Toribio, + Lovie. Each of the last three years’ sessions have been restorative and blissed out escapes from NY with friends and nature, and we are already looking forward to the next one.

2022
Love Injection Records started in 2020 with Conclave Music and has slowly been picking up in frequency since. Conclave is Toribio most ambitious musical project yet and to inaugurate Love Injection Records with it felt like a step into new territories. 2022 saw the release of Barbie Bertisch‘s debut record, one that surprised and delighted most and that we’re immensely proud of. Prelude became the label’s second full length release.

2023
We finally published Dope From Hope with the help of a thousand plus backers on Kickstarter, who also believed Paul W. Klipsch’s long-lost, cult audio newsletters deserved a place in our homes. It has been in the works since 2018, tried but failed to launch in 2020, but the wait was worth it. Inside we commissioned insightful essays by Colleen Cosmo Murphy,  Jim Hunter, Richard Groves, Roy Delgado and managed to tell our story, too. Raspberry Jones and Jane Lerner came in clutch at the end and helped us to polish it up. We are finally sold out and it feels great to have it out in the world. Too many to thank, you know who you are <3

2024
Obviously this 9 photos for 9 years exercise was tough and not 1-1 the most important events we as a collective/magazine/label/whatever have endured. There is always so much going on under the surface that no one will see. We have both lived lives before this project, and without those lives, experiences, friends, moments we wouldn’t be here. Thanks to everyone who has graced our pages or helped in any way. It’s nice sometimes to look back, but it’s really about what’s ahead – and we still feel like we are just getting started. See you tonight.
