Expect wild turns and unexpected shifts through the years of dance tonight in the Sound Room as we bring together two DJ/producers who paint very much outside the lines with their wide palettes of sounds. Opening the night is Jex Opolis, the Canadian multi-instrumentalist, composer, vocalist and DJ, who has a distinctly unique place in the contemporary electronic music landscape. Classically-trained from a young age in piano and guitar, Jex’s work organically fuses traditional melodic song craft with meticulous electronic production and behind the decks, he wistfully pans club, home listening and pop music, with melodically-driven and emotive works at the center. To headline, it’s a Helsinki legend, Toni Rantanen or more simply known as Lil’ Tony. Known for running the ever-expanding Sörnäinen club complex as well as the warehouse venue Ääniwalli, and co-owner and programmer of Flow Festival, Rantanen has 30 years of Djing and producing under his belt, giving him an arsenal of textures to sling, leading to beguilingly eclectic sets. Consisting of disco, italo, tropical, soul, afro, zouk, soukous, hi energy, 90’s house, influenced by his early warehouse days, there is no corner Lil’ Tony won’t dig.
