It’s not very often that a venue or organization has the opportunity to present the work of one artist in one weekend under two different project monikers. Tonight in The Sound Room Will Long joins Frank & Tony for their Scissor and Thread residency and tomorrow he performs as Celer at DURATIONS. We headed to Colbo for coffee to chat audio practices and essential cuts. Read below to hear essential cuts from each project and why Francis loves them.

Will Long: Time Has Come

Time has Come, the lead track off volume one of Long Trax on Dj Sprinkles, Comatonse, strips back house to the working bones that built it for the past 4 decades. Melodic, yet minimalistic in approach, Long introduced the world to his own version of a critique of wage labor through the skittering raw beats of a drum machine, vocal samples and a hook for the ages that felt like a warm blanket of love and acceptance in time of growing strife.

Celer: Merita

Like a tiny cut in the skin that lets a little light in, Will Long as Celer gave us Merita during the darkest days of 2020, a 30+ minute meditation as part of a larger body of work “Future Predictions”. Ambitiously optimistic yet grounded in an intense fold of melancholy, Merita feels like a suspension of time as its glides melodically across the body as if to repair in a time of desperation.
