Danny Daze kicks off his new PR residency and takes over take over the Sound Room and Bar with his fellow Miamians, his Omnidisc boss Sister System and  Romolu of Phoenecia. Ahead of the evening, Amelia Holt asked Daze some burning questions and Sister System put together a back-breaking mix of Miami’s finest tunes.

Danny, this is the first night of your PR residency, what should we expect? Any surprises or special moments in store to honor the kick-off?

DD: The purpose for this residency is to feel comfortable enough with a room that people can go in and understand they should be open to anything being thrown their way. I’ve got a few new tracks I’ll be playing which are part of my upcoming album I’ve never played before. Only playing them in there because the quality of the sound system is so good, it would be a shame to not try them out in there.

Tell us about your guest, Sister System? How did you both meet?

I met Alexis a few years ago when she came to a show I was playing. Slowly started seeing her out more then saw her dedication to pushing things forward in Miami. We’ve thrown events together and she is core Omnidisc team. Her laser focus on making sure the vision is fully recognized is one of the reasons I consider her an integral part to the movement happening in Miami.

What track, album or mix has been on repeat for you these past few weeks?

Gotta say, I rarely listen to music nowadays as music is something I’m constantly wrapped in. Wether it’s making it, DJing it or going through demos for the label …. I tend to give myself a break in order to not exhaust myself. That being said, with the amount of travel I’ve been doing … I dove into mixes recently. Specifically the Bleep Podcast series. Checkout that Datassette mix.

What are you working on lately? Any music we should be on the look out for?

A new EP just came out last week by Jonny From Space and I titled GT . Came out on Omnidisc last Friday. Take a gander at that one as it’s quite diverse in sound. Currently working on a couple different projects. One which has been about a decade coming is “Danny From Miami” which focus’s more on my Hispanic / Cuban heritage. Working on music with a few artist like MJ Nebrada & Djoy De Cuba for example. Really excited about this as I’m exploring much more complex poly rhythmic structures in my music.

Favorite party moment this year so far?

Honestly? … and I’m not pandering here. Last time I played Public Records has been a key point. I had so many friends from Miami fly out and so many people I hadn’t seen from NY in so long …. The love in that room was palpitating. This is one of the things I’m looking forward to with this residency. The fact every artist I booked to play with me during the residency is from Miami assures we’ll have that atmosphere to look forward to.
